Reviewed: Silky 200 Denier Thermal Fleece Tights

Leading British hosiery brand Legwear International recently gave some more samples to trial and review.

We focus on the Silky 200 Denier Thermal Fleece Tights.

About Silky

Established in 1997, the Silky brand offers a wide range of hosiery from everyday sheers through to fast moving fashion. Silky aims to offer the highest quality hosiery at affordable prices.

Packaging

The Silky 200 Denier Thermal Fleece Tights are packaged very simply. The tights are folded and held in place in a card clasp. The packaging is designed for retail display.

Material and features

Silky describe the Silky 200 Denier Thermal Fleece Tights as follows:

Our New and Improved 200 Denier Fleece Hosiery products are made with a soft brushed fleece lining designed to give maximum warmth when the weather gets cold without feeling stuffy. Our fleeced products offer a fabric that allows the skin to breath and are soft and cosy to wear. All of our fleece is highly rated by all our consumers and has become a wardrobe staple for many of our followers. The Fleece tight can be easily matched with any dress or skirt for a modern, sophisticated outfit.
These tights have a 200 denier appearance and are made from 93% Polyester and 5% Spandex.

They look quite large when taken from the packaging, especially in the leg (a good sign for male wearers).

The material is soft on the outside but has an even softer fleece lining.

They are sheer to waist with no demarcation for the panty/brief area. Seams are flat throughout and well made.

There is a 3cm wide waistband. Both the Large and X Large sizes I tried have a rear comfort panel.

Appearance is matt with no shine, and opaque coverage is even and dense.

Sizing, fit and wearing experience

The Silky 200 Denier Thermal Fleece Tights are available in four sizes:

  • Small
  • Medium
  • Large
  • X Large

I tested them in both the Large and X Large sizes.

The Large size, which according to the sizing information will fit up to 5'10", fitted well. The tights have considerable stretch.

The brief is quite deep and stretches over the waist. They fit as medium rise style.

The fit is quite snug but slightly looser than tights that have a higher Lycra/Elastane content.

They feel very soft on the leg and the internal fleece provides good insulation, without overhearing or producing sweating and discomfort.

Overall they were a comfortable wear and on the two very cold days I wore them, the thermal effect was excellent. You notice that with warm legs more heat is retained in the body overall.

They were also comfortable under trousers and jeans.

I did find however that the tights did need some adjustment and pulling up during the day. They also attracted other fibres which meant some brushing to maintain a smooth appearance.

I noticed little difference in sizing, when worn, between the Large and X Large sizes.

Colour range

The Silky 200 Denier Thermal Fleece Tights are available in five colours:

  • Black
  • Grey
  • Navy
  • Brown
  • Wine
Both pairs I tried a pair were Black.

Price and availability

The Silky 200 Denier Thermal Fleece Tights are available from several retailers, but we recommend UK Tights where they are priced at £4.99.

Conclusion

The Silky 200 Denier Thermal Fleece Tights are, at just £4.99, a real bargain if you need some warm, thermal tights in the current cold weather.

The overall positives are:

  • Excellent warming, thermal quality.
  • Breathability: warmth without overheating or sweating.
  • Good stretchiness and elasticity.
  • Durable material.
Check the many very positive reviews that satisfied customers have written about this style on the UK Tights website.

Note that UK Tights also stocks these related Silky styles:

Reviewed: ITEM m6 men's fine ribbed socks

UK Tights are now stocking a range of hosiery from the German ITEM m6 brand.

UK Tights sent us a pair of the ITEM m6 men's fine ribbed socks to trial and review.

About ITEM m6

ITEM m6 is the fashion brand of medi, a high-tech manufacturer in Germany with over 60 years experience in product development, utilising the highest production standards to integrate "medi compression" technology into state-of the-art legwear.

Packaging

The packaging is really impressive and I wasn't surprised to hear that ITEM m6 was the winner of a reddot award 2015 for packaging design.

The socks arrived in a very cool rectangular black card box. The box has a clear plastic window cut into the front, which reveals an inner card that is wrapped around the socks.

Material and features

ITEM m6 describe the socks as follows:

Perfect for frosty winter days. For the sensation of walking on cotton wool. Innovative compression technology made in Germany.

The new Socks Fine Ribbed from ITEM m6 are the warmest way to look cool. Master every challenge as if you were walking on clouds thanks to the soft plush high-tech fabric in their soles. Toasty warm and powerfully effective – full compression power and improved circulation provide a boost of energy on and off the clock.

Got a long wait at a frosty train station? The Socks Fine Ribbed are ready to keep you company and have brought a hot water bottle along. Worn under a suit and lace-up shoes, they show themselves from their smart side as they work to create a lasting feeling of well-being – even when the train arrives later than usual.

Pressure-free cuffs, skin-friendly and breathable fabric, and unique compression technology all merge in the ITEM m6 socks to create a novel wearing experience. Innovation, design and technology for exacting quality standards made by medi, Germany.

These socks are made in Germany. The yarn, described as a high-tech form fit thread, is 87% Polyamide and 13% Elastane.

The key features are:

  • 50 denier appearance
  • Ribbed texture
  • Reinforced sole, heel and toe
  • A 3cm wide pressure-free cuff.
The sole is particularly interesting as it is woven from a thicker yarn and has a pattern with wider ribs. This provides a thicker sole and cushions the foot.

The material is soft and comfortable again the skin. It also looks extremely durable and hard wearing.

The overall impression is that these socks have been designed with immense care to provide to provide the benefits of compression, alongside optimum comfort,

Fit and sizing

The ITEM m6 men's fine ribbed socks are available in four sizes:

  • Small
  • Medium
  • Large
  • Extra Large (L+)

I tested them in the L+ size.

You can find your own perfect fit by using the ITEM m6 size finder tool on their men's socks page.

Unlike some compression legwear, the ITEM m6 fine ribbed socks were really easy to put on the feet.

I worse these socks for a whole working day and the overarching impression is that they are just incredibly comfortable. The reinforced sole provided a real cushion and you feel that your shoes have suddenly become more comfortable!

The L+ provided a really good fit for my feet (show size 44; UK 10.5). The yarn is quite stretchy and the high Elastane content allows them mould to the shape of the foot.

Other key aspects of fit and wearing experience are:

  • The socks stayed in place perfectly all day, supported by the pressure-free cuff that does not dig in or constrict in any way.
  • They feel great against the skin.
  • They provided warmth and insulation on a very cold day, but the material also breathed well.
  • Moderate level of compression.
  • The ribbed pattern looks smart and elegant so these socks work well with formal ear but will also function well in more casual situations.
Colour range

The ITEM m6 men's fine ribbed socks are available in three colours:
  • Black
  • Vert Noire
  • Anthra Purple
I tried a pair in Black.

Price and availability

The ITEM m6 men's fine ribbed socks are priced at £17.50 at UK Tights.

Conclusion

For socks, the ITEM m6 men's fine ribbed socks would be a relatively pricy purchase but the quality is so good that I feel this is justified.

Firstly, the yarn used is extremely durable. I am certain that these socks will provide an extended period of wear.

The fine ribbed style looks really good when worn. The overall wearing experience was exceptional.

It would be great if this style was also available as men's fine ribbed tights. Hopefully that might be something that ITEM m6 looks at.

Recommended.

Reviewed: Pamela Mann 80 Denier Plus Size Black Opaque Tights

Hosiery brand Pamela Mann recently sent us some tights from their Plus Size range to trial and review.

Pamela Mann was established in 1956, and are a well know British hosiery brand. Their legwear is manufactured in Europe but all final production phases - embellishing, printing and packing - take place in-house.

Alongside the Pamela Mann brand, they also offer a comprehensive range of 'own label' hosiery to many retailers on the UK high street.

We have previously reviewed the Pamela Mann Diamond Opaque Tights.

We now focus on the Pamela Mann 80 Denier Plus Size Black Opaque Tights.

Materials and features

The Pamela Mann 80 Denier Plus Size Black Opaque Tights are part of the Pamela Mann's extensive range of plus size tights and other legwear.

Pamela Mann describe these tights as follows:

80 denier tights give a dark thick leg coverage available in a variety of colours. Our opaque tights are a high quality due to the use of 3D yarn, knitted together to add extra endurance and elasticity of the tight.

The tights are packaged very simply. They are folded and then enclosed in a card clasp.

I was immediately surprised at the quality of the 3D yarn, which is made from 93% Nylon and 7% Elastane.

The finish is soft with a slight shine when caught in the light. As described by the brand, the tights have great stretch and elasticity.

The key features are:

  • 80 denier, providing smooth, even opaque coverage.
  • Deep panty/brief with a rear comfort panel in both sizes tried. Conventional seams.
  • Sheer to waist.
  • 3cm wide waistband.
  • Toe reinforcement.

Fit and sizing

The Pamela Mann 80 Denier Plus Size Black Opaque Tights are available in four sizes:
  • One size
  • 16-18
  • 20-26
  • 28-32

I trialled the Pamela Mann 80 Denier Plus Size Black Opaque Tights in two different sizes: 20-26 and 28-32. According to the sizing information both of these sizes will fit heights of up to 5'10".

The fit was excellent with both sizes and this was helped with the wonderful stretch and elasticity that these tights have.

I couldn't really feel any significant difference between both sizes when worn.

The Elastane ensured that they moulded well to the legs without sagging or bunching. The brief is deep and comfortable.

These tights worked particularly well under pants as the slight sheen provides a nice glide.

The feel really good on the skin - soft and comfortable. The overall wearing experience was excellent.

Colour range

The Pamela Mann 80 Denier Plus Size Black Opaque Tights are available in Black, and also in White, Grey, Blue and Burgundy.

I tested a pair in the Black colour.

Price and availability

The Pamela Mann 80 Denier Plus Size Black Opaque Tights are priced at £6.99.

Conclusion

For just £6.99 the Pamela Mann 80 Denier Plus Size Black Opaque Tights are really a bargain.

Okay, you don't get flat seams or an advanced comfort waistband, or indeed other features that are seen in more expensive brands. But the yarn used is very good quality, and the tights provide a very comfortable wearing experience.

This plus size range from Pamela Mann works well for men. I feel this style would stretch to heights of more than 5'10" and they provide plenty of room for the calves, thighs and brief area.

Stay tuned for our forthcoming review of the Pamela Mann 120 Denier Plus Size 3D Navy Opaque Tights

Reviewed: Chaffree men's briefs

Chaffree is a unique brand that offers a range of seamless, sweat absorbing and chafe reducing underwear for men and women.

Chaffree recently sent us a pair of their new Chaffree men's briefs to trial and review.

You can still read our review of the Chaffree men's boxer shorts and we highly recommend them. They are particularly comfortable to wear under tights.

Materials and features

The Chaffree men's briefs are simply packaged. They arrive enclosed in a folded card, which is then housed in a clear plastic envelope.

The packaging information is detailed and useful and includes information on the fabric, features and sizing.

The Chaffree men's briefs are made from a special performance wicking fabric called COOLMAX®, which aims to keep the skin cool and dry. COOLMAX® fabric that includes an effective fiber-based moisture management system. The system can move perspiration away from the body, and through the fabric, where it can evaporate quickly, allowing the wearer to feel cooler and more comfortable. By causing preparation to evaporate quickly, skin irritation is reduced. The fabric also has anti-bacterial qualities.

The fabric feels lightweight and very soft to the touch.

It is made from 74% Polyester/COOLMAX, 16% Polyamide and 10% Elastane.

The high Elastane content makes the briefs really stretchy. If you look closely you can see that the yarn is knitted in a really close mesh. They are also extremely lightweight.

The briefs are really carefully designed and engineered. The key features are:

  • A 4cm wide comfort waistband. This is the same (jet) colour as the rest of the brief but has a grey band and the Chaffree logo. The log on the waistband replaces any internal labels, again with the aim of reducing irritation to the skin and maximising comfort.
  • A much wider cut for the leg opening - this means that any tightness on the leg is reduced.
  • Seamless apart from a double stitched flat seam that sits under and slightly to the rear of the crotch.
  • Breathability - the briefs have been specially designed so that areas of more intense sweating/perspiration are dealt with quickly and effectively.

Fit and sizing

The Chaffree men's briefs are available in five sizes:
  • SM
  • ML
  • XL
  • 2XL
  • 3XL
I trialled the M/L size.

Chaffee provide this additional advice on sizing:

Due to the nature of the fabric and its two way stretch there is a degree of overlap between sizes. Also take into account your personal preference as to how tightly fitted you like to wear your garments.

I was really excited to hear that the Chaffree men's briefs were finally available and was eager to try them out. I have worn the Chaffree boxer shorts extensively and they function as well as they did the day I first wore them.

The Chaffree men's briefs are so easy to put on and their stretchiness helps them to fit well to whatever shape you are. The other initial impression is noticing how soft they are against the skin.

The waistband is particularly comfortable, as are the tailored leg openings.

Overall fit was excellent and the briefs also provided good support, with no constriction, for the male anatomy.

I did notice however that compared to the Chaffree boxer shorts which sit high on the waist and can even be stretched higher, the Chaffree briefs sit in a slightly low rise position.

Colour range

The Chaffree men's briefs are available are available in three colours:
  • Jet (Black)
  • Arctic (White)
  • Pacific (Blue)
I tested a pair in the Jet (Black) shade.

A mix of colours is available if a pack of three or pack of five is ordered.

Price and availability

The Chaffree men's briefs are priced individually as follows:

  • £13.00 for the S/M and M/L sizes
  • £14.00 for the XL and 2XL sizes
  • £15.00 for the 3XL size
A pack of three briefs is priced as follows:
  • £35.00 for the S/M and M/L sizes
  • £37.00 for the XL and 2XL sizes
  • £40.00 for the 3XL size
A pack of five briefs is priced as follows:
  • £58.00 for the S/M and M/L sizes
  • £61.00 for the XL and 2XL sizes
  • £66.00 for the 3XL size
Postage is FREE OF CHARGE for all UK orders over £40.00.

Conclusion

The Chaffree men's briefs are another premium, top quality product from Chaffree. As you can read above, the focus is on making a garment that is above all comfortable and every feature is designed to achieve that outcome.

These are the overall positive aspects:

  • They are very lightweight which makes them perfect for travel. They will fold and compress into a small shape and furthermore they wash and dry easily.
  • Great comfortable fit providing a second skin feel.
  • Perfect for wearing under tights.
  • Breathability - whatever you are doing these briefs will keep you fresh and comfortable and you will to experience any chafing or discomfort.
  • Stylish design.
My preference however remains for the Chaffree men's boxer shorts, which are absolutely the most comfortable undergarment I own. But if boxer shorts are not your thing, then do give the Chaffree briefs a try.

To get more news on when further Chaffree products are available, follow them on Facebook and Twitter.
